Building Services company Ford Mainwaring is guaranteeing interviews to armed forces veterans as part of a wider commitment to support the UK’s Armed Forces.

The North Staffordshire based business has made a commitment to support present and former service men and woman by signing up to the Armed Forces Covenant.

“While many veterans have highly transferable skills, the adjustment from military to civilian life can be tough,” said company Director Daniel Bailey.

Ford Mainwaring work primarily on public sector contracts and these include deployment across Ministry of Defence sites as a sub-contractor for Vivo Defence, improving and renewing the infrastructure on MoD housing at army and RAF bases.

By signing the covenant, Ford Mainwaring has agreed to a series of pledges. Alongside the interview guarantee, this includes:

  • Supporting Reservists within the company’s workforce by offering additional days of annual leave (paid/unpaid) to carry out their duties
  • Offering work placements, insight days and mentoring schemes to Veterans seeking employment
  • Engaging with the Career Transition Partnership, the official Ministry of Defence backed body for people leaving the Armed Forces.

Daniel added: “Signing the covenant offers benefits for all sides and I’d urge other companies to pledge their support. We are a growing company, and are always open to applications from skilled workers in the electrical and mechanical engineering sectors.

Over 14,000 skilled workers leave the Armed Forces each year and having learned a trade, while working in highly motivated teams, they are equipped with a range of highly desirable and transferable skills.

“They have proven abilities, such as a willingness to undertake training, resilience, accountability and calmness under pressure.

    • “Signing the Covenant shows Ford Mainwaring’s commitment to supporting those who have served us. We pledge to promote the Covenant and the Armed Forces community to our staff, customers, supply chains and the wider public and to  work collaboratively with other organisations who do the same.”

Based on the Centre 500 Business Park in the Etruria Valley, Ford Mainwaring undertakes building engineering projects across the UK, working with clients in the public and private sectors on major electrical and mechanical installation and refurbishment projects.
