An online disruptor platform which is set to transform the security technical services industry is already providing a “win-win” situation for small traders, according to one of its earliest adopters.
Rich Johnson, owner of Technicom Electronic Security in Hull, was one of the first suppliers to sign up for the instaENG platform, where customers post electronic security engineering jobs which businesses or sole traders can then bid for.
Rich, who has been an electrical engineer since he left school, set up Technicom in 2005 when he started subcontracting for big industry players such as Chubb and Mitie.
His company, which specialises in domestic and commercial installation of CCTV systems, access control and alarm systems, is now directly bidding for work with Travis Perkins, instaENG’s first blue-chip customer.
Rich said: “The thing I most like about this platform is it opens up a big door. You would not normally see these kinds of jobs unless you were subcontracting for a Mitie or a Chubb.
“Under the old regime, the pay isn’t great and you wouldn’t be able to work directly for a big company like Travis Perkins.
“Now, we can work directly with them and build relationships. It is a win-win situation.”
Rich said the instaENG platform also enables him to price jobs based on photos, reducing the costly process of travelling to quote for work he may not then secure.
“I feel like it is the first online profile I have created with a purpose!” he added.
