The Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) attended the launch of the innovative Beyond Pills campaign, supporting the development of social prescribing within healthcare
Launched by the College of Medicine, the ground-breaking Beyond Pills campaign brings together an array of health care professionals from different disciplines and calls for the government to immediately address the nation’s unsustainable prescription service through re-prescribing and social prescribing.
Launched on Thursday 16th June at the Integrative & Personalised Medicine Congress 2022, and celebrated at the House of Lords, Beyond Pills pioneers the way for new mindsets towards the healthcare prescribing system. FHT were proud to be an official sponsor of the IPM Congress and are delighted to be a key part of the Beyond Pills campaign.
Led by a group of healthcare leaders and senior politicians, including Dr Michael Dixon (chair of the College of Medicine), Lord Crisp KCP (chair of All-Party Parliamentary Group on Global Health) and Dr Bogdan Chiva Giurca (College of Medicine Council member and founder of NHS Social Prescribing Champion Scheme), the campaign is aimed at reducing drug prescription, expanding the number of social prescribing link workers, saving critical funds and providing support to individuals and local communities hindered by healthcare inequalities.
Speaking at the IPM Congress 2022, Dr Michael Dixon said: “Medicine, as we know it, is no longer affordable or sustainable. Nor is it able to curb the increase in obesity, mental health problems and most long-term diseases. A new medical mindset is needed, which goes to the heart of true health care. The advantages and possibilities of social prescription are limitless”
FHT are long-standing supporters of the College of Medicine and social prescribing. As part of the newly initiated Integrated Medicine Alliance (IMA) – who have brought organisations together to support the future of medicine – they celebrate this significant occasion.
FHT’s CEO, Monica Price, who was in attendance on the behalf of the FHT, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to be at the launch and I will do everything I can to support and help this important and revolutionary campaign.”
