Students and staff at Ellesmere College are celebrating the first set of external exam results, with impressive performances in both the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and the BTEC L3 Sport qualifications.
There was a 100% pass rate in BTEC Sport qualifications, with a particularly strong set of results in the BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development qualification – equivalent to two A Levels.
On the IB Diploma Programme, one of the world’s most respected and academically rigorous qualifications, this year’s cohort achieved an average score of 32 points – equivalent to ABB at A Level.
Jonathan Shaw, Head of Ellesmere College, said the results reflected the dedication, resilience and ambition of students.
He said: “Congratulations and well done to all our Year 13 IB and BTEC students on their excellent results.
“We are delighted for them, and they should be extremely proud of all they have achieved.
“They leave not only with impressive qualifications, but also as confident, well-rounded young people with the character, resilience and ambition to make a positive difference in whatever path they choose next.
“Thank you to all our staff for their dedication in supporting and guiding our students, and to our parents for their continued care, encouragement and support.
“The success of our students demonstrates the breadth and flexibility of pathways available at Ellesmere and the outstanding outcomes that can be achieved through both academic and vocational programmes, enabling students to develop practical industry knowledge alongside valuable academic skills.
“The majority of our pupils take A Levels, with the IB and BTEC providing alternative options depending on the individual.
“We continue to be immensely proud of all our students and look forward to following their continued successes as they move on to the next stage of their educational and professional journeys.”
Next year Ellesmere College will be celebrating offering the IB programme for 20 years.
It requires students to study six subjects alongside the Core Programme, which includes Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS).
Students will also be receiving GCSE and A Level results at the College next month.
