A Dains duo gave a helping hand at a special celebration event for people with learning disabilities and/or autism.
Internal Recruiter Jenna Clewley and Training Co-ordinator Jackie McEvoy volunteered for Dimensions at the Learning Disability and Autism Leaders’ List 2019 celebration at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
They helped to set up for the showcase event, collected guests from Birmingham Moor Street train station, registered them on arrival and then guided them throughout the day.
Dimensions organised the event to honour people throughout the UK who are now recognised on the annual Learning Disability and Autism Leaders’ List
The volunteering session was part of Dains’ Corporate Social Responsibility commitment and the business works closely with local community groups and organisations and supports a wide range of charities, events and initiatives each year.
Jenna said: “We were pleased to be part of the Leaders List event which was a real eye-opening experience for us and an opportunity to hear about some of the amazing success stories and achievements from those that attended.
“It was great to be involved on the day and help out in the wider Birmingham community.”
Dimensions has been supporting people with learning disabilities, autism and other complex needs since 1976 – helping them to lead ordinary lives in their local communities.
Over 7,000 staff and volunteers provide ambitious and effective personal support to deliver improved outcomes for people throughout England and Wales.
One of the winners who attended the event and has been named on the Leaders’ list is Coronation Street star Liam Bairstow who made history in 2019 when he became the first actor with Downs Syndrome to become a regular British soap star.
The Leaders’ List was only launched in 2018 and is the UK’s first national list which celebrates the achievements of people with learning disabilities and/or autism.
Ceri Dixon, Volunteering Officer at Dimensions, said: “We are really grateful for the help and support we received from Jenna and Jackie who were Event Assistants for the day.
“This was the first time we have staged an event on this scale and having so many volunteers helping us on such an important occasion made a real difference.”
