Cygnet Health Care’s Broughton House rated ‘Good’ By Care Quality Commission

  • Broughton House rated ‘Outstanding’ in the well-led category, with both staff and senior leadership team praised for effort and dedication
  • Service also recognised for enhancing independence of service users  and close coordination with families

Cygnet Health Care is delighted to announce that the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated the care provided by Cygnet Broughton House, a specialist learning disability facility for people aged between 16 and 25 years old, as ‘Good’ overall. The facility was rated ‘Outstanding’ in the ‘well-led’ category.

The service was notably recognised for the leadership and care of the Broughton House team, the level of independence encouraged in service users and also the close channels of communications with relatives.

Rated as ‘Outstanding’ in the ‘well-led’ category, the CQC report praises the work of the staff describing the team as ‘a caring and empathetic staff group who enjoyed working with the people they supported’. This is largely as a result of the long service and experience of the team, many of whom have served for over 20 years. Further, the low rate of staff turnover has allowed for the development of an established team that understands the specific care needs of service users.

The report also recognised the service for enabling a high level of independence among its service users, commenting that patients were given ‘maximum choice and control’ of their lives and needs. This is supported by the service’s ASDAN awards initiative, which enables service users to gain important skills and qualifications in a variety of different areas, including the arts and sports.

Broughton House was also praised by the CQC for high-levels of transparency in patient care and the close relationship the team has with the family members and carers of service users. The care of service users at Broughton House is determined in consultation with family members, particularly in the case of new admissions where special focus is given to understanding the specific needs of that patient and their family to ensure that care is tailored.

Emma Hodson, Home Manager of Cygnet Broughton House, said: “All of us at Broughton House are delighted that our service was recognised as ‘Good’ by the CQC, with our leadership rated as ‘Outstanding’. The entire team, many of whom have been here for over 20 years, has been incredibly heartened by the positive feedback from the families of our service users and I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all the Broughton House team – they are the very people who make the service so successful”

Tony Romero, CEO of Cygnet Health Care, said: “I am immensely proud of the team at Broughton House for all the hard work and dedication they have shown and which is clearly reflected in this positive rating by the CQC. The level of commitment and enthusiasm they show in caring for some of society’s most vulnerable people is exactly the standard we expect across our services. They are an inspiration to all of us at Cygnet Health Care.”
