Construction firm Stepnell wins gold for health and safety

Rugby-based construction specialist Stepnell has won gold at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA)’s prestigious national Health and Safety Awards.

The RoSPA Awards recognise achievements in health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

“I am delighted that the hard work and commitment our team has put into making sure Stepnell is a safe place to work has been recognised by this top RoSPA accolade,” says Bill Haynes, Stepnell director with responsibility for health and safety. “Health and safety comes first across our business and this award reflects our high-quality standards. To have won the Gold Award at the first time of asking is testament to the attitude and quality of our project teams. It also demonstrates the continuous improvement culture in the business.”

Stepnell undertakes projects from a wide range of sectors including health, commercial, care, education, and leisure. The team regularly works in challenging construction environments which often remain in occupation during the project, requiring extremely careful health and safety planning.

Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of qualifications, awards and events, says: “The RoSPA Awards are the most highly-respected in the health and safety arena, with almost 2,000 entrants every year, and allow organisations to prove excellence in the workplace, demonstrating a commitment to the wellbeing of not only employees but all those who interact with it.”
