Closing the gender gap

Leading Doctor offers men only wellness retreats.

A leading doctor has come up with a bold initiative in an effort to close the gender gap in healthcare.

Dr Aamer Khan, Co-Founder of Harley Street Skin Clinic, has developed wellness retreats exclusively for men at Ballingdon Hall in Suffolk.

Dr Khan is an award-winning doctor and author who has dedicated the past 17 years to aesthetic and regenerative medicine. Like many other professionals in the health care sector Dr Khan firmly believes that some men’s health issues are overlooked and under-catered for and claims that many treatments are either considered elective healthcare or are not addressed by mainstream healthcare providers or national healthcare systems.

Following extensive research, and to bridge the ‘gender gap,’ Dr Khan’s has developed programmes for burnt out and ageing men who need to give their physical and mental health a serious overhaul.

‘The Mind-Body Connection’, addresses the psychological, emotional and physical health issues that affect men of all ages and result from the pressures of everyday life. These issues typically result in a lack of sleep, poor diet, a lack of exercise, addictions, body confidence issues and low self-esteem.

The programme focuses on body movement, fitness and strength work, coaching and counselling and offers a raft of self-care therapies to aid physical fitness and mental clarity. It also includes a full health assessment, personal training sessions, nutritional advice, yoga and meditation as well as a range of holistic treatments designed to leave men feeling fitter and stronger with increased energy and reduced stress levels.

‘The Rejuvenation and Revitalisation programme’ aims to help men look and feel younger and improve their life expectancy. It addresses the signs and symptoms of age that can make life challenging for men: wrinkling of the skin, depression, mood swings, lack of energy, poor concentration and short-term memory loss, hair loss, a loss of muscle mass, a loss of sex drive, erectile dysfunction, osteoporosis, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and other physical conditions very often associated with ‘manopause.’

It includes a full health MOT, DNA and blood testing and incorporates nutrition, personal training sessions and various treatments and therapies with medical advice on how to slow down the effects of ageing on the mind and bodyand deliver optimal health and longevity.

Dr Khan explained: “In recent years we have seen considerable activism by women to better the quality of their health and health care. You only have to look at the number of awareness campaigns relating to issues like family planning, female cancer or the menopause to see the evidence of this. However, far less has been done to improve access to certain men’s healthcare services.

“Men need to have better access to treatments that will improve the quality of their lives, support the problems associated with age and help them overcome the psychological taboos that very often prevent them from seeking help.” For more information go to Retreats.
