A Staffordshire-based design and construction company is celebrating five years in business by rolling out their revamped brand and sleek, modern website.

As co-founders of the Powell Design and Construction business, husband and wife team Richard and Alexandra Powell proudly provide a full-service solution for homeowners looking to extend, renovate, or build their homes.

From a standing start in spring 2019, the business has completed over 250 projects and built a team of 12 skilled professionals, ranging from architects to site managers.

Alexandra said: “I’m an architect, while Richard is a project manager and heating engineer. Our complementary skills blend perfectly, allowing us to cover all bases, from design to execution, seamlessly.

Originally from Athens, Alexandra came to England to study architecture at the University of Liverpool. While building her career as an architect in Colchester, she met Richard who was also based in Southern England at the time despite growing up in Caverswall, North Staffordshire.

“We didn’t set out to work together, but we joined forces on a house project which exceeded our expectations, so we decided to combine our skills, and the rest, as they say, is history.”

“We decided to return to Richard’s roots in Staffordshire to establish our business, and we now work mainly in the Midlands and Cheshire. With its diverse architectural styles and sense of community, this location has proven ideal for our business.”

“Our sweet spot is bespoke home revamps, creating a ‘forever’ home for people who love their house but want it to be reimagined. This could be an internal makeover or an extension. We typically work on rear extensions to create a large open-plan kitchen, but we have designed and built everything from indoor swimming pools to our latest project, which is an outbuilding with a home gym and underground cinema.”

“We also place an emphasis on creating sustainable, energy-efficient homes, leveraging renewable energy sources and sustainable materials where possible in our projects to minimise environmental impact.”

“By working together, Richard and I can provide single-source design and build solutions individually tailored to every project,” added Alexandra, who also lectures on architecture at Staffordshire University.

Landmark moments during the past five years include moving from a home office to new premises at the DaisyBank Business Centre in Cheadle and establishing a team of trusted designers and contractors. These significant business advancements have allowed them to scale operations and refine their service offerings.

In addition to its closely knit internal team, Powell Design and Construction is a genuine family affair. Alexandra and Richard’s 5-year-old son, Apollon, is also immersed in the business.

“He’s our future CEO,” said Alexandra, “he has his own branded workwear and PPE and comes out on site with us when he’s not at school”. Apollon’s involvement paints a wholesome picture of the company’s ethos and family values, shaping the future generation of the construction and architecture industry.”

After five years in business, the company commissioned a new website and a brand refresh, introducing a new colour palette and creating a sleek new website with updated photography, architectural renders, and hand-drawn illustrations to better reflect the company’s growth and quality, and to provide potential customers with valuable insights into their services, past projects, and process.

Alexandra said: “We’re incredibly excited for what lies ahead for our business. Our vision for the next five years is not only to expand our portfolio of design and construction projects but also to deepen our impact on the communities we serve. Through focused development, thoughtful designs, continuous learning, supporting apprenticeship schemes, and a commitment to sustainability, we aim to set new industry benchmarks while maintaining the family-oriented culture that is the heartbeat of our business.”
