Christmas mental health campaign raises over £1,000 for UK charity, Mind

A charitable Christmas campaign aimed at raising money and awareness for those suffering with mental health has raised £1,060  – with all funds going to national charity, Mind.

The Dairy Creative Agency, based in Nottingham, decided to give back at Christmas and run its own ‘Dairy Dares’ campaign centred around raising awareness of the problems surrounding mental health. Each team member faced their fears in a bespoke challenge, putting them out of their comfort zone to test their mental strength.

Challenges included taking on an escape room single-handed in the dark, leg waxing, eating three of the hottest chillies on the market, taking part in a comedy improv session and building a shelter and fire in a forest during typically British winter conditions. Each challenge was recorded and shared across The Dairy’s social media channels during December and the team has successfully raised £1,060 for Mind.

Statistics published by the charity show that one in four people every year experience issues relating to mental health. The topic has become more and more prominent in recent years and made the headlines in early January when the Football Association teamed up with Public Health England to put the spotlight on mental health during this season’s FA Cup as part of the ‘Every Mind Matters’ and ‘Heads Up’ campaigns.

The issue is clearly one that is close to the hearts of the team at The Dairy and the agency’s Managing Director, Nigel Rowlson, thinks more businesses should take a moment to talk about it on a regular basis.

“Mental health affects most people today – even if you don’t struggle yourself, most of us know someone that is affected by poor mental health at some stage in their lives,” says Nigel.

“It would be easy for us to ignore the topic and carry on with our daily lives, but I think more and more companies should take a step back from the day-to-day hustle and bustle of business and think about mental health – both for themselves and for their employees,”

The Dairy already supports the annual CEO Sleepout which takes place at Notts County’s Meadow Lane stadium and raises money for The Friary, Emmanuelle House and Notts County Football in the Community. The CEO Sleepout is a national initiative which raises money to support the homeless and mental health can be a contributing factor in why many people end up living on the streets.

As Nigel goes on to explain, both him and his team are passionate about giving back to communities whenever they can and he’s delighted to see that clients, suppliers and friends of The Dairy have donated generously to the cause.

“We wanted to make a genuine difference to sufferers at what can be an especially tough time of year when they sometimes feel more alone than ever, despite all the festivities. We can’t thank everyone enough that’s donated to the campaign and we’re delighted that this money will now go towards making a difference to people that really need it.”
