Shropshire school pupils visiting a long-established outdoor education centre in Snowdonia can now enjoy a more comfortable stay following improvement work.
Arthog Outdoor Education Centre, overlooking Barmouth Bay, is a leading provider of adventure activities, playing host to many children and adults from across the region each year.
It is run by Telford & Wrekin Council and is the regular destination for school trips who combine use of the adventure activities with practical experience of educational subjects such as geography, geology and history.
SWG Construction, based at Welshpool and Shrewsbury, was called in to carry out improvement works over a period of several weeks while the centre was still fully operational and being used by visitors.
Nigel Stephens of SWG said it was important to carry out the work with as little disruption as possible to the day-to-day running of the centre.
He said: “SWG was delighted to be involved in this project. We overhauled the heating system in the children’s accommodation, making the building much more comfortable and energy efficient.
“The work was done while the centre was in use so we needed to exercise particular care not to impact on the children and adults using the facilities while the work was taking place.
“Our people were on site for six weeks, everything went smoothly and the improvements have been well received. We were pleased to be asked to help out, Arthog provides a tremendous service to the community and plays host to so many children from Shropshire and surrounding areas every year.
“SWG Construction has a commitment to the local community and is happy to get involved with community projects whenever we can.
“The centre is so vital for the many children and adults who use the facilities. It’s not only one of the top activity centres available but also plays an important role as a base for furthering education – something Arthog has been associated with for many years now.”
