Chester Business Club kick-started its 2024 fundraising drive with a charity quiz – that generated £1,500 for good causes.
Sixty players, spread across 16 teams, locked horns for the special event at the Abode Hotel in Chester earlier this month (JAN).
In a unique twist each of the seven rounds was sponsored by a member of the Chester Business Club (CBC)..
They donated funds to a different local charity which helped to ensure a myriad of organisations in the region benefited.
Those sponsored included; The Border Collie Trust; The Salvation Army; Help for Heroes; Refuge, Cheshire Scouts; SHARE; Children’s Adventure Farm Trust and the Hospice of the Good Shepherd.
A donation from each ticket sold also went to Platform for Life, whose trustee Alan Seiber attended the event and thanked those participating for their support.
The quiz was won by a team led by Gavin Floyd, a member of the CBC Executive Committee. Mr Floyd, from the Chester-based property valuation firm DEE SURVEYS Ltd, who donated £100 to Refuge.
The winning team – which also included Luke Floyd, Matthew Canfield and Louise Hilder – also walked away with a specially engraved carafe as a team prize, plus four individual team prizes of engraved glasses
Commenting, Jan Chillery, Chair of the CBC said: “I’d like to thank all those who helped organise the event and to everyone who came along to take part. January can be a bit of a gloomy month as we all know, so it was wonderful to have a fun quiz with mocktails, where everyone could get together, relax, test the grey matter but most of all enjoy themselves.
“We raised £1500 for good causes which is brilliant. Having 7 members of the Club sponsor a round meant 7 members from widely different businesses had the opportunity to introduce themselves and describe their chosen charity.
“As a Club we are committed to “making a difference and having fun doing it”. We have lots of exciting activities planned in 2024, including a “Business in the Bush Challenge” on Saturday 20 April by Spartan Survival.”
The event was in collaboration with Chester Young Professionals Network (CYPN) whose chair Bryony Chambers-Towers, a solicitor at Aaron & Partners LLP attended with several other young professionals of different specialisms.
The CYPN is for professionals of any age in the first five years of their career and seeks to help them network and form lasting relationships with other business people in Chester.
Ms Chillery added: “The CBC is keen to support young business people in Chester by providing relaxed and friendly networking opportunities like this quiz. We deliberately kept the ticket price low to encourage young professionals to take part, and included a mocktail and portion of chips as well as a charity donation in return for just £15. Young entrepreneurs are the lifeblood of our city, and we must continue to support and encourage them. Chester Business Club isn’t just about raising money for charity. Our members want to be involved and informed about our beloved City of Chester.”
