A popular animal hospital in Runcorn has earned a prestigious national environmental award for waste management.
Linnaeus-owned Northwest Veterinary Specialists (NWVS) took the top spot for Best Waste Reduction in the Investors in the Environment (iiE) 2023 awards.
The accolade recognises businesses across the UK that have gone above and beyond to reduce waste management and it follows hot on the heels of NWVS also being accredited as a Silver level practice by iiE.
The judges recognised NWVS for a series of measures it has taken, including paper usage and waste being reduced by a third, the reduction of the use of disposable incontinence sheets by over 46 per cent, plus housekeeping members being fundamental in ensuring waste is in the correct recyclable bins across the premises.
Jenny Pearson, hospital manager at NWVS, said: “This is a fantastic achievement by all the team at NWVS and is testament to their hard work in reducing waste, so my thanks go to all of them.
“To be recognised as number one in the UK for best waste reduction by iiE is no mean feat. It also provides further incentive to push even further in 2024 to regain the crown.”
Overall, iiE is a nationwide initiative that encourages firms to transform their working practices to introduce more environmentally-friendly, cleaner and more sustainable methods and systems.
Lauren Bate, a veterinary physiotherapist at NWVS, and green team member along with Jenny and Lauren Buckley, said: “We’ve made a concerted effort to switch to reusable or low-waste products and this determination has made a real positive impact in reducing our waste, as recognised by iiE.”
