Capsticks takes strides towards ending youth homelessness: Announces participation in the Barcelona Marathon for St Basils Charity

Emily Howe, Victoria Harrison and Helen Jones, two Associates and a Paralegal from Capsticks, a leading healthcare, housing and regulatory law firm in the UK, are stepping up to support the vital cause of youth homelessness by participating in the Barcelona Marathon on behalf of St Basils Homeless Charity. This exciting event is set to take place in March 2024. The trio have pledged to fundraise £1,500 for the cause with the firm committing to match-fund up to their target, bringing the total up to £3,000.

St Basils is a Midlands based charity dedicated to helping young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Its mission is to provide these young individuals with the support they need to secure a home, build confidence, develop essential life skills, and access opportunities for a brighter future.

Over the years, the Capsticks team in Birmingham has established a close relationship with St Basils. A portion of the firm’s regional CSR activity in the Midlands has focused on aiding the charity. Some of the past projects include hosting fundraising picnics, revitalising the garden at one of the charity’s properties, and engaging with young people to enhance their life skills.

The decision to participate in the Barcelona Marathon comes on the heels of Capsticks’ involvement in the Great Birmingham Run in May 2023, which was dedicated to supporting St Basils. Eager to elevate their efforts Emily, Victoria and Helen will now undertake this international challenge.

Kicking off the fundraising campaign, the trio, with support from the firm, are calling on individuals and businesses to join them in making a meaningful impact. Homelessness is a dire and unexpected reality for far too many young people. St Basils provides shelter and support to over 600 young people every night, but they need critical funding to continue their vital work. As it currently stands, St Basils faces a shortfall of £8.93 per person, per day to sustain their essential programs in the West Midlands.

Pauline Clarke, Senior business and community ’s fundraiser for St Basils, expressed their gratitude to Capsticks, stating: “We extend our heartfelt thanks to Emily, Vicky, and Helen for their dedication to taking on the Barcelona Marathon in support of St Basils. We are equally grateful to their friends, family, and colleagues for their generous donations, which will significantly contribute to our continued efforts within the West Midlands.”

As Emily, Vicky, and Helen embark on this incredible journey, they invite everyone to learn more about St Basils and their mission by visiting the charity’s website at stbasils.org.uk.
