A unique hospitality model in the heart of Camden, challenging industry standards for how urban businesses balance social accountability with environmental performance, has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.
The Wesley, an independent hotel group with properties in Euston and Camden Town, has been named a finalist in the Polestar & Country & Town House ‘Great British & Irish Hotels: Sustainable Hotel Of The Year Awards 2026’.
This recognition follows the hotel’s reporting of a carbon footprint per guest that is currently 50% lower than the London average, a result of its strict alignment with the Methodist Church’s Net Zero 2030 target.
Owned by the Methodist Church, the 139-room group has transitioned to 100% renewable electricity and eliminated all single-use plastics across its daily operations. Beyond environmental metrics, the hotel operates with a focus on social sustainability, maintaining its status as a London Living Wage Employer and hiring 73% of its staff from the local community to ensure economic benefits remain within the borough.
The Camden location is uniquely integrated into a Methodist church, blending historic architectural preservation with modern social initiatives such as the local foodbank support.
While the Euston property provides a central base for exploring the capital’s cultural landscape and is the current focus of owner-supported investment into building fabric improvements to reduce energy consumption.
Currently holding Green Key, Green Tourism Gold and ECOsmart Platinum certifications, the group’s long-term strategy focuses on fabric-related building improvements and transparent carbon reporting.
The final winners of the awards will be officially announced on May 1st, coinciding with the publication of the annual Great British & Irish Hotels guide.
