Calls for help increase from gambling debt

Dylan Jones

There are approximately 18,000 problem gamblers in Wales, with problem gambling referred to as gambling that is disruptive or damaging to the individual or their family, or interferes with daily life. And shockingly, one in 10 young people aged 11-16 reported having spent their own money on gambling activities.

In light of the White Paper released last week, Cardiff based Dylan Jones, CEO of IE Hub, a free budgeting tool aimed at helping people struggling with debt to manage their finances, said: “As a company, we fully support the UK government’s proposal to overhaul gambling laws and introduce measures to tackle problem gambling.

“We have seen a significant increase in the number of individuals seeking our services in recent months for gambling-related debt, underscoring the urgent need for effective measures to address this pressing issue.

“We welcome any measures that promote responsible gambling and protect vulnerable individuals from falling into debt. We are hopeful that this proposal will be implemented and lead to a reduction in harmful levels of gambling in the UK.

“We have a host of resources and tools aimed at helping people overcome debt issues and urge anyone working to overcome their gambling problem to utilise our free platform, which will help alleviate some of the stress around their financial situation. Our tools can help people track and manage their finances to break free of the cycle of gambling debt.
