Flashback to the 2019 awards evening
A popular business awards programme aimed at smaller companies in Newcastle borough plans to celebrate firms who responded well in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Organisers of Business Boost want to hear from anyone in the borough who innovated to either survive or thrive during the past 18 months.
They are asking small business owners to write in with up to 500 words on how they tackled the coronavirus slowdown.
There will be recognition on the Business Boost website and social media and prizes from sponsor Best of British Beer.

Business Boost Chair, Sarah Da Silva, said: “We have held off having a full competition in 2021, as we recognise that some may see it as a distraction as they continue to fight the consequences of the pandemic, but we are keen to celebrate Newcastle-under-Lyme businesses that took action to weather the storm and those who thrived.
“These business owners and managers deserve our thanks. They have kept people in jobs and supported the economy of our borough – we know there are many owners and managers who have worked tirelessly and we want to shout about them.”

Five winners will be chosen by the Business Boost committee, a group made up of local business owners, supported by representatives from Newcastle Borough Council and the Newcastle town centre BID.
Business Boost is open to any company in the borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme with less than 250 full time equivalent employees.
Examples of pandemic response initiatives, could be launching a new service or product to survive or thrive; taking action to ensure employees’ jobs were saved; or supporting others, such as charities, in the pandemic.
Sponsor Best of British Beer, based at the Silverdale Business Park, is a specialist beer and cider retailer with customers across the UK. It is run by Business Boost committee members, Gill and Will Sherwin.
