Business Beats Cancer Yorkshire holds first gala dinner in Leeds raising over £45,000 for Cancer Research UK here in Yorkshire

Alexandra Fogal, Chair of Business Beats Cancer Yorkshire and Business Beats Cancer Board

Business Beats Cancer Yorkshire officially launched on World Cancer Day 2021, raising over £35,000 in its first year through a variety of fundraising activities and challenges that really got the Yorkshire Business community behind them.

On Thursday evening, at The Queens Hotel in Leeds, Business Beats Cancer Yorkshire hosted 340 business leaders at their first gala dinner. The aim was to bring the business community together to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK here in Yorkshire. Through a variety of fundraising activities on the night a staggering £45,000 was raised.

Alexandra Fogal, Chair of Business Beats Cancer Yorkshire, and who leads Private Business for EY in the North said: “It was absolutely amazing to see the success of our first gala dinner event with so many businesses in Yorkshire supporting us. The funds raised will go into work across Yorkshire with Cancer Research Uk. The Board and I have worked extremely hard over recent months to ensure the event came together and the feedback has been absolutely amazing. We are all so thrilled to make such a difference”

“Several of us have experienced cancer within our own families which is unsurprising considering that one in two people will be diagnosed with this dreadful disease in their lifetime. Thanks to research, cancer survival is at an all-time high and we are committed to raising funds for the life-saving and cutting-edge science that Cancer Research UK is doing here in Yorkshire.”

The Business Beats Cancer Yorkshire Board is made up of six businesspeople from a wide range of professional sectors who are determined to help fight one of Yorkshire’s biggest killers by raising funds for life-saving cancer research carried out by Cancer Research UK in the region.

Business Beats Cancer Yorkshire is pulling together a full calendar of events for 2022 and beyond, with the next event their Charity Golf Day at Rudding Park on Thursday 30th June 2022. To reserve your four ball please get in touch with Chair Alexandra Fogal.

Kathryn Leverett, Fundraising Manager for Cancer Research UK in Yorkshire, said: “One in two people now survive their cancer for 10 years or more in the UK, but there is still so much more to be done. Our ambition at Cancer Research UK is to accelerate progress in cancer research and see three in four people survive the next 20 years but we need huge support to make this happen.

“The support we receive from our business community is hugely important to us and the commitment that the Business Beats Cancer Yorkshire Board has already made to raising money for life-saving research is fantastic.  The funds will go towards Cancer Research UK’s work here in Yorkshire.”
