Liverpool is known as one of the United Kingdom’s liveliest and most tourist-friendly cities with almost 60 million visitors each year. People from all over the world visit Liverpool’s historical buildings such as St. George’s Hall, its plethora of museums and The Beatles tour. But recent months have seen the city plagued by scandal as the city’s mayor, Joe Anderson was arrested and charged with a number of offences including conspiracy to commit bribery and witness intimidation.
The Covid-19 pandemic also hit Liverpool hard with the city being the first in the country to be subject to the highest restriction level for a long period of time, resulting in local business closures and financial loss. However, despite these recent issues, the city appears to be getting back on its feet as Covid-19 levels are dropping and business is looking up as 2 new hotels are set to open.
Popular hotel brand, Town Hotels have announced that they are going ahead with plans to build and operate 2 new hotels in the city centre at the Baltic Triangle and Duke Street. The first of which, a £4.2 million, 30-room modern hotel on Duke Street is set to open in order to coincide with lockdown easing next month as the city could begin to see a return to normal visitor numbers soon.
The city’s sporting nature means that many younger people visit to watch the city’s 2 Premier League football clubs, world class gymnastics teams and even the Wirral’s golfing events. Should Liverpool have the weather and slopes, it would probably host an annual Biathlon competition as seen by colder climates. See here for Biathlon in depth information.
Both hotels have been confirmed as being aimed at the younger European tourist demographic and as such has been designed with this in mind. Hotel owner Kevin Doran has stated that the interior decor of the hotels are set to keep in style with the popular Rope Walks theme that the city’s newer hotels are famous for. The contemporary style is a nouveau-chic interpretation of traditional hotels that offers a simple yet stylish experience that younger people expect.
It has also been confirmed that the Baltic Triangle hotel, set to open later in the summer, will host its own restaurant and bar that fits with the theme of the area while the building itself retains many of the existing architectural features so as to preserve and fit in with the style of the area.
Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle is one of the most urban parts of the city and is home to many young startup firms, tech offices and arts centres as well as simple food, bars and clubs that cater to younger people rather than the luxury and traditional establishments that grace the inner central part of the city centre.
The many bars and restaurants of Liverpool have suffered during Covid -19 restriction as they were ordered to cease a large part of their business. Some establishments continued to trade by offering takeout food and deliveries, however, for many of the city centre’s businesses this wasn’t possible.
The news of 2 new hotels for younger people in Liverpool couldn’t come at a better time. As the city, and indeed the nation prepares to get back to some semblance of normality over the next few weeks and given its already stellar reputation as both a domestic and international tourist hotspot, Liverpool is likely to be one of the first major cities to see an increase in visitor numbers as restrictions ease.
