Award-winning entrepreneur Stacey Pickess is celebrating 16 years in business with exciting news of a further job-boosting expansion.
As the 42-year-old celebrates her business milestone, as founder and owner of Avoca Spa in Station Street, Burton, she is proud to reveal she is forging ahead with continued development plans.
Stacey has now revealed that she has three city properties in her portfolio with plans to double her current salon offering to enable her to serve more clients who currently flock from across Burton and further afield, including Lichfield, Uttoxeter, Birmingham, Derby and Loughborough.
Stacey’s success is borne out of resilience and determination to succeed.
The latest expansion revelation demonstrates Stacey’s commitment not to rest on her laurels but her determination to grow and evolve as well as to give back to the community and create more local jobs.
The successful businesswoman’s journey began after a life-changing experience in 2006 when she was diagnosed with skin cancer, aged 24, at Queens Hospital, Burton, which needed subsequent surgery at Birmingham’s Selly Oak Hospital.
It’s out this experience that the vision of Avoca Spa, which started just as a solo venture to provide safer tanning alternatives to prevent others facing the same risk, became a reality.
Since then Stacey’s entrepreneurial talents have seen her venture, which began as one room above a hairdressers, to go from strength to strength. Not only has she successfully navigated a recession and pandemic, but a cost of living crisis too and still faces rising product costs, like other SMEs.

Stacey, whose cancer experience has seen her appear on the sofa with Lorraine and on This Morning, said: “Starting during a recession and evolving into what we are today is a testament not just to my hard work but of my talented team and the support of the community we serve.
“As an independent business we are constantly facing challenges, so I’m never able to relax – I’m always having to think on my feet so we continue to evolve.
“I’m committed to building on our strong foundations with my dedicated staff which is why I’m incredibly excited to announce an expansion is in the pipeline that will further contribute to Burton’s economy.”
