Ryan Massey, 28 from Brierley Hill, Dudley, is taking on the epic challenge of losing three stone, raising funds for Leeds-based Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity in honour of his brother-in-law James Hickman, 41.
The sponsored weight loss will enable Ryan to take part in a skydive on Sunday 1st August at Bridlington Airfield, organised by Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity. The skydive will see him jump from an aircraft flying 10,000 feet in the air, free falling at over 120mph. Ryan needs to fundraise £400 in order to take part in the skydive, and is asking for donations via GoFundMe.
Ryan said: “I am doing a sponsored weight loss for my partner Sharlin Green’s brother James.
“After years of attempting to track down his family, my brother-in-law James learnt he had several sisters and a brother. This was amazing news to round up 2020, considering that towards the end of the year, James was diagnosed with a Glioma, a form of brain tumour. This devastated the whole family and it scared everyone that we could lose him so quickly.
“On 15th January 2021, James had an operation which removed more than 95% of the tumour. The reason your donations for Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity are so important is to fund research in case James’ brain tumour reoccurs and for anyone else that may be going through the same.”
Jen Aspinall, Community Fundraiser at Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity, said: “Ryan has been so brave, firstly by putting himself forward to lose 3 stone, which is a challenge in itself, but secondly with the aim of jumping out of a plane to raise vital funds needed to support families like his.
