Harlequins are pleased to announce the appointment of Brian O’Leary as Head of Medical.

O’Leary joins the Club following Mike Lancaster’s departure to the RFU and brings significant expertise to the role with more than 15 years’ experience across multiple medical and performance positions in professional sport.

Having spent nine years at London Irish as Head of Performance, O’Leary most recently worked as a first-team physiotherapist for Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League.

He also worked for Fiji at the 2023 Rugby World Cup and spent five seasons at the Ospreys.

Originally from Cork, O’Leary has university qualifications in Psychology, Physiotherapy, Sports and Exercise Medicine and Nutrition, alongside extensive experience working for the NHS in multiple positions.

Upon joining the Club, O’Leary said: “After spending last season working in the Premier League, I feel the time is right to return to rugby especially to such a historic club like Harlequins. I look forward to working with Billy (Millard) and Danny (Wilson) and adding to the great work by Mike Lancaster and his medical team over the last few years. After 10 years being the opposition, I am excited to work in front of the Harlequins fans at The Stoop.”

Director of Rugby Billy Millard commented: “We’re delighted to welcome Brian to Quins. He brings enormous experience and expertise to the role and an excellent reputation for delivering world-class medical and performance support. We look forward to Brian’s leadership and contribution as we continue to prepare for the 2024/25 season.”
