Despite a global pandemic, the cost of living crisis, and an increasingly fragile nightlife economy, The Night Owl in Digbeth has defied the odds and is proudly celebrating 10 years of independent music, dancing, and community this month.
Since opening its doors in 2015, initially as the UK’s only Northern Soul club, The Night Owl has become a staple of the city’s cultural life, renowned for its warm atmosphere, wooden dance floor, colourful, creative decor, genre-spanning music policy, and legendary themed events. While many small venues have sadly shut down in recent years, The Night Owl has survived but thanks to the love and loyalty of its regulars, artists, and hardworking team.
To mark this incredible milestone, The Night Owl is throwing a huge birthday bash – The Big Birthday Shindig – on Saturday, 26th July. This will also be the final event in a series of 10 events across June and July, celebrating different aspects of what The Night Owl is all about, from grassroots indie to rock n roll to Northern Soul.
THE BIG BIRTHDAY SHINDIG – SATURDAY 26TH JULY
Expect a full-on carnival atmosphere with:
- Live blasting brass from the incredible Heavy Beat Brass Band.
- 60s garage & rock ‘n’ roll from The Trouble.
- A wild DJ and live bongo set from Big Boss Man.
- Plus classic Night Owl DJs spinning soul classics, mod, ska, disco, funk, rock and party anthems from the likes of David Bowie, Blondie, Chaka Khan, Fleetwood Mac, Prince and beyond.
The venue will be transformed for the occasion with decorations, themed cocktails and the welcoming energy that keeps dancers coming back for a decade. Whether you were there on opening night in 2015 or you’ve only just discovered the venue this year, this party is for everyone who’s ever loved The Night Owl.
