Bereaved mum to sky dive in memory of her son

Engagement Manager for Edward’s Trust, local bereavement charity ‘Jumps for Jack’ – on the 8th anniversary of his death.

Bereavement charity worker, Lucy Goodway, will be jumping out of a plane in memory of her son Jack who she lost to a still birth 8 years ago. In doing this she will raise money for the charity.

On 24th September Lucy will be jumping out of a plane at a height of 13,000ft, free-falling to accelerate to 120 miles an hour and covering each thousand feet in approximately 5 seconds. She is doing this in memory of her son, Jack, and to raise money for the bereavement charity she now works for.

Lucy Goodway says, “after a very challenging 2 years of the Covid Pandemic, I have decided to celebrate my little boy’s 8th birthday this year by taking on my biggest challenge yet. Yes, I am ‘Jumping for Jack’ from an aeroplane! I am scared to death, but my little boy deserves to be celebrated in this way. I now work for Edward’s Trust family bereavement charity who supported me when I lost Jack. I want them to be able to support more families like mine.”

Clare Martin, Acting Chair of Trustees says, “We are hugely impressed by Lucy who has chosen to brave a skydive to raise money to support us. Jumping out of a plane takes huge courage, but so too does facing loss and bereavement and walking through the doors of Edward’s Trust to get help. It costs over £600,000 for Edward’s Trust to provide our bereavement services to the thousands of families we support each year. In order to do this, we rely on the generosity of amazing supporters like Lucy and many more doing lots of amazing things to fundraise for us. We are also extra proud of her being part of our team here at Edward’s Trust and know what a challenge this will be for her. We will all be cheering her on as she ‘Jumps for Jack!’ ”

Edward’s Trust was founded by Peter and Hilary Dent in 1989 in memory of their son, Edward, who died of cancer when he was 7 years old. Over the past 33 years Edward’s Trust has evolved from an organisation providing home from home accommodation in Birmingham, for families who had a seriously ill child in hospital, to what it is today – a holistic bereavement support service for bereaved parents, children and carers across the West Midlands.  The Trust offers support through counselling and a ‘Wellbeing in Bereavement’ service that includes complementary therapies. Edward’s Trust also provides telephone support, specialist support groups and social activities as part of its holistic bereavement support service.
