BDR Thermea Group partners with Digital Space to adopt cloud-first strategy and drive sustainability agenda

A global manufacturer and distributor of smart heating and cooling solutions has adopted a cloud-first strategy to help drive its sustainability agenda, thanks to the support of IT managed services provider, Digital Space.

Operating in over 100 countries – and operating in the UK as Baxi Heating – BDR Thermea Group is on a clear mission to create smart thermal comfort solutions with a near-zero carbon footprint for building owners and users worldwide.

Focused on developing innovative heating and cooling solutions that drive energy transition in commercial and residential environments, BDR Thermea has worked closely with Digital Space for over 10 years and utilises its hosting services to support the recording of usage data of its thermal comfort solutions.

For example, BDR Thermea recently deployed trials of its cutting-edge hydrogen boiler and have since relied on the use of cloud for real-time data access, connectivity and scalability for ongoing demos across the UK and Europe.

Having successfully secured a five-year contract extension in early 2020 following a competitive tendering process, Digital Space have also played a fundamental role in further accelerating BDR Thermea’s digital transformation strategy – ensuring the manufacturer can effectively respond to new pressures on business operations following the outbreak of COVID-19.

Key to this has been the implementation of a hybrid cloud-first strategy, which not only continues to support its field trial studies, but has also enabled effective collaboration between staff, partners, and customers, whilst ensuring engineers can quickly identify any issues and deliver proactive, remote maintenance for its smart thermal solutions worldwide – significantly reducing operational costs.

Keith Gill, Global IT Systems Manager for BDR Thermea Group, explained: “Since Digital Space started delivering our IT solutions, we have been impressed by the invaluable skilled resources, availability of support and expert advice on offer.

Like many organisations, we faced increasing challenges at the outbreak of COVID-19 and not only needed to adapt our digital infrastructure to enable us to respond to customer demands in a more agile and flexible manner, but also to ensure that our own internal processes were and continue to be as sustainable as possible. As a brand, we are focused on driving complete energy efficiency and understand the vital role technology and key partners like Digital Space can play in helping us to achieve this. We are, therefore, delighted with the progress we have made to date and look forward to continuing to advance our cloud-first strategy as the marketplace evolves.”

Matt Newman, Head of Manufacturing and Construction at Digital Space, added: “Digital Space is always looking for innovative ways to support BDR Thermea Group’s environmental and sustainability strategy through the use of technology. By fully aligning our knowledge and best practices to that of the customer’s requirements we are both pushing in the same direction.

BDR invests in R&D to deliver continuous improvements for its customers. A great example being the utilisation of IOT to remotely monitor end user devices, which results in preventative and predictive maintenance with the net result of decreased service visits.”

Born from the heritage of managed services firm, Timico, Digital Space is backed by private equity firm, Horizon Capital, and boasts a leading client portfolio with key brands including St John Ambulance, Domino’s Pizza and Harrods Aviation.
