Bare Cards has launched The Josephine Wall Collection, a new range of 24 trifold self-sealing greetings cards designed to reduce waste, remove the need for separate envelopes and offer a more sustainable way to send a card.
The launch comes against the backdrop of huge national card consumption. In the UK, more than 850 million greetings cards are bought each year, generating vast amounts of paper waste in the form of cards, envelopes and additional packaging, much of which still ends up in landfill or general waste. Bare Cards believes the industry needs practical product innovation, not just greener messaging, if it is to reduce its environmental impact at scale.
Bare Cards was founded by husband-and-wife team Derren and Ceri Seal, who have made it their mission to create a better alternative to the traditional card and envelope format. Derren has spent 20 years in the industry identifying the waste problem and developing the patented self-sealing card concept, while Ceri left her full-time role in primary schools to run Bare Cards and help grow the business full time.
The company was also delighted to win #SBS with Theo Paphitis in September 2025, and Ceri met Theo in February 2026, a milestone that reflected how far the business has come. The pair say the recognition has strengthened their belief that their idea has the potential to make a meaningful difference to the greetings card sector.
The self-sealing format removes the need for a separate envelope. The card is written on the blank open leaf, folded over, sealed with an adhesive strip and then posted or hand delivered, with the finished card sending as a standard letter in the UK. This means less single-use paper waste, less need for cello-wrap, and fewer materials going to landfill.
Another unique feature of the Bare Cards concept is that the posting covers can also be fully printed, creating a striking visual impact before the card is even opened. The company’s wider mission is to reduce waste while creating products people want to keep, frame and repurpose as art rather than discard after use.
That vision is brought to life in The Josephine Wall Collection, a range that celebrates the work of one of Britain’s best-loved fantasy artists. Josephine Wall’s paintings are known for their themes of unicorns, fairies, goddesses, mermaids and nature, making the collection a natural fit for Bare Cards’ keepsake-led approach.
The range includes 21 triptych cards featuring three beautiful paintings, plus 3 panoramic single-image designs. Printed in the UK on 300gsm sustainable board, the cards measure 13 x 19cm when folded and open out to an impressive 39 x 19cm. They are available in either a black or white border, following a 50/50 split in Bare Cards’ market research.
“We knew the traditional card-and-envelope model created unnecessary waste, and Derren has spent years working to solve that,” said Ceri Seal, co-founder of Bare Cards. “I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built together, and of being able to turn that idea into a business that helps reduce waste while celebrating beautiful artwork people will want to keep.”
The Josephine Wall Collection will be available to buy on the Bare Cards website from 7th May 2026.
