A charity single, ‘She’s One in a Million’ has been released on World Health Day, April 7th, to raise funds for ‘Safe Haven – a Ray of Hope’ which supports children with disabilities.

The single by African superstar, Flavour N’abania and popular North East singer Anna Reay, is in memory of Valerie Olalemi. At only 8 years old, Valerie, lost her life to a rare disease called Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD).

Newcastle based Blessing Olalemi, Valerie’s Mother and a founder of ‘Safe Haven – a Ray of Hope’, wanted a way to honour the memory of her middle daughter whilst supporting the charity.  She contacted Flavour because Valerie had been a huge fan. Her favourite song was ‘Virtuous Woman’ which was performed by Anna at Valerie’s funeral in April 2020. Anna said “It was an honour to be asked to sing and I have been involved with the family and the charity ever since.”

With so many hit singles and major albums, Nigerian born singer song-writer, has become one of Africa’s most sought after artists. He said “After speaking to Blessing I was inspired to learn about Valerie’s amazing fight. It was an emotional story and I wanted to help.  I was also pleased to be involved with Anna Reay on this project she is a great musician, superb!”

Anna added “It was a real privilege to work with Flavour, I love the song and his voice. I also love the fact this collaboration is bringing elements from different parts of the world. The musicians from here in the UK and Flavour adding his tasteful African vibes”

Funds raised from downloads of the single and donations will help in the next step for ‘Safe Haven – A Ray Of Hope’  which is building a design school in Newcastle for underprivileged and children living with disabilities. Blessing said “It was Valerie’s dream to become a fashion designer. The single and the design school will be instrumental in keeping her dream alive.”.
