STV presenter Emma Cameron will host a special live interview with the acclaimed Scottish author of The Jewel Keepers
One of Scotland’s best-known authors, Sara Sheridan, will join Glasgow’s Bookface community for a special Sip & Swap event on Saturday 28 November, from 9.30am until midday.
The best-selling author will be in conversation with STV presenter Emma Cameron, discussing her latest historical novel, The Jewel Keepers, her writing career and her fascination with bringing women’s stories back into the historical record.
The morning event will combine Bookface’s popular book swap with a live author interview, giving readers the chance to meet Sheridan, hear the stories behind her work and swap their pre-loved books with fellow readers.
Published by Hodder & Stoughton in May, The Jewel Keepers takes readers to 1837 and follows 25-year-old Araminta McKenzie-Moore, who is summoned from Richmond to Edinburgh following the death of her great aunt.
There, she becomes embroiled in the extraordinary history of the McKenzie women, who have secretly acted as Jewel Keepers to the Scottish Crown for generations. Mixing real historical events and locations with mystery, romance and intrigue, the novel has been praised for its vivid depiction of old Edinburgh and its formidable female characters.
Sheridan is the author of more than 20 books spanning historical fiction and non-fiction. Her previous novel The Fair Botanists was named Waterstones Scottish Book of the Year in 2022, while Where Are The Women? reimagined Scotland through the achievements and stories of women too often missing from traditional accounts of the country’s history.
Hosting the conversation will be journalist and STV presenter Emma Cameron, familiar to viewers from STV News and What’s On Scotland.
Bookface founder Heather Suttie said: “We’re delighted to welcome Sara back to Bookface. She’s such an engaging storyteller and The Jewel Keepers gives us so much to talk about – Scottish history, remarkable women, secrets, jewels and old Edinburgh.
“Having Emma Cameron host the conversation will make this a really special morning as we celebrate Christmas too. Our Sip & Swaps are about bringing people together through books. You come along with books you’ve loved, pass them on to somebody else and go home with a new pile to read – as well as hearing from some brilliant authors.”
Sara Sheridan said, “ love coming to Bookface whether I’m in the audience or on stage. It’s a fun way to spend a Saturday morning chatting about interesting books and I can’t wait to share all my chat about The Jewel Keepers over coffee and a glass of bubbly.”
Founded by broadcaster and writer Heather Suttie in 2020, Bookface has grown into an international reading community of around 20,000 people and has hosted more than 85 live literary events.
Its Sip & Swap events encourage readers to bring along pre-loved books and exchange them with other guests, giving hundreds of books a new home while creating an informal social space centred around reading.
