“I wanted to take a risk”: the 23-year-old Birmingham founder helping small businesses get found on Google

Some people wait for the perfect moment to start a business. Amrita Kalsi decided not to.

The 23-year-old from Birmingham launched Amrita SEO in June 2026, an SEO consultancy helping small businesses get found on Google and in AI tools like ChatGPT.

“I wanted to take a risk and try something challenging,” said Amrita. “I’d spent years learning SEO and helping other people’s businesses grow. One day I just thought, if I don’t do this now, when will I? So I went for it.”

Amrita started her career as an SEO apprentice at 18 and worked in different digital marketing agencies before going out on her own.

“I learnt everything by doing,” she explained. “Every client, every website, every mistake taught me something. That’s what I bring to the businesses I work with now.”

With more than four years of SEO experience and 30+ clients behind her, Amrita now works with three types of businesses: wedding vendors, B2B companies and ecommerce brands.

“Wedding vendors have my heart,” she smiled. “They put so much love into what they do, and they deserve to be found by the couples looking for them.”

In one recent project, a Birmingham wedding business saw its website visits from Google rise by almost 38% in just three months.

Amrita also helps businesses get ready for the way people search now, with Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) and Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO).

“People aren’t just Googling anymore, they’re asking ChatGPT,” she said. “If your business isn’t showing up there, you’re missing customers who are ready to buy.”

Part of the NatWest Accelerator programme in Birmingham, Amrita has built her brand around the representation she didn’t see when she first stepped into SEO.

“I rarely saw anyone who looked like me in this industry,” she added. “If a young woman reads this and thinks ‘maybe I could do that too’, that would mean the world to me. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to start.”

Amrita recently attended IGNITE26: The Female Founder Conference at Millennium Point, and now works with businesses in the UK, Dubai and America. She also shares simple SEO tips in her fortnightly newsletter, Found on Google.

She concluded: “SEO can feel confusing, and that’s exactly why I keep it simple. I just want to help good businesses get found by the people already looking for them.”
