RJC Plant Services Ltd, a Church Fenton-based waste collection and plant hire business, is putting men’s health in the spotlight this September with a month-long campaign raising awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer UK.
Coinciding with Male Cancer Awareness Week (15-21 September), the campaign involves the team using their vehicles, services and local presence to encourage more conversations around prostate cancer, while raising money to support men and families affected by the disease.
With 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with the disease at some point in their lifetime, the firm is committed to supporting the leading UK charity aimed at helping more men survive prostate cancer and enjoy a better quality of life.
Throughout September, RJC will donate £2 from every Road Sweeper hired to Prostate Cancer UK, giving customers the opportunity to support the campaign simply by booking the company’s services as usual. A Just Giving page is also available for people to donate to the cause.
Alongside its fundraising efforts, the company will be using its social media platforms to raise awareness of prostate cancer and the importance of knowing when to seek medical advice.
As part of the campaign, RJC will be joined by local doctor, Dr Lubna Khan-Salim for a conversation covering prostate cancer, including the signs and symptoms to be aware of, who may be at greater risk and what men should do if they have concerns.
Chris Jackson, Co-Director of RJC Plant Services, said: “Working in our industry, we’re surrounded by men every day, whether that’s our own team, customers, drivers or people working out on sites. We wanted to use that reach to get people talking about something that can be very easy to put off or avoid.
“If this campaign encourages even one person to have a conversation, speak to their GP or find out more about prostate cancer, then it’s worthwhile. At the same time, we want to raise as much as we can for Prostate Cancer UK throughout September.”
The initiative continues RJC’s commitment to supporting causes both locally and nationally. Previous fundraising and community projects have included raising money for Melanoma UK through the team’s Calendar Girls-inspired charity calendar, donating a defibrillator to Church Fenton and, most recently, transforming the outdoor space at Kirk Fenton Church of England Primary School as part of its ‘Big Build’.
