September date for brain injury networking forum

Mobility therapy for children and orthotics will be the subjects of two talks at a brain injury networking forum being held in Oswestry next month.

The free event is being hosted by law firm Lanyon Bowdler at The Movement Centre based at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Gobowen, and anyone interested in attending is being urged to sign up now as places are limited.

It is the latest event run by Lanyon Bowdler offering the opportunity for professionals and other interested parties working in the field of brain injury to come together, exchange views and share their expertise.

The forum takes place on Wednesday, September 16, at 10am and will feature three guest speakers – Claire Keers and Claire Snape from The Movement Centre and Tom Woods from Oswestry-based Woods Orthotics.

Dawn Humphries, head of Lanyon Bowdler’s personal injury team, said: “These events are always well attended and provide an interesting forum for discussion about the issues facing those who have suffered a brain injury.

“We hold networking events regularly at various venues and invite a variety of specialists along to give short presentations, offering an insight into their particular areas of expertise.

“Claire Keers and Claire Snape will be talking about the life-changing work The Movement Centre is carrying out with children from across the UK.

“The charity provides mobility therapy for children through its Targeted Training programme, a unique and innovative approach that focuses on helping children with movement difficulties achieve greater independence and mobility.

“The centre works with children who have conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, acquired brain injuries and genetic disorders. Targeted Training is made possible for families thanks to the charity’s ongoing fundraising efforts.

“Meanwhile, Tom Woods will talk about the work being done by Woods Orthotics, an orthotist-led clinic providing expert assessment, prescription, and fitting of high quality orthotic devices.

“They specialise in gait analysis, using high resolution video technology and digital foot pressure analysis to deliver evidence-based orthotic solutions tailored to the individual.

“The company works with adults and children, helping to manage a wide range of conditions by improving function, reducing pain and enhancing mobility. Every device is prescribed and fitted following comprehensive clinical assessment.”
