A podcast in tribute to the legendary football manager Brian Clough has reached a major milestone, registering listeners in more than 100 countries.
The award-winning Green Jumper pod was launched in 2021 and is hosted by the author and former radio journalist Marcus Alton.
To celebrate the latest achievement, a special event will be held as part of the final Lowdham Book Festival in Nottinghamshire next month. Marcus will be hosting what he describes as an intimate and entertaining afternoon of Cloughie nostalgia on Saturday 20th June, 2026.
“I’ve called this event ‘Brian Clough – Tales from the Green Jumper’ and it promises to have some wonderful Cloughie memories,” said Marcus, who interviewed the former Nottingham Forest and Derby County boss several times.
“It’s fantastic to see that the podcast now has listeners in over 100 countries – from Belgium to Brazil! The global success of the pod shows there’s still worldwide interest in Cloughie and his achievements all these years later.”
Book festival founder Jane Streeter from The Bookcase book shop said she was looking forward to seeing Marcus return to Lowdham for the final festival.
Said Jane: “It’s wonderful to welcome Marcus back to the festival more than 15 years after his first appearance here. He has been a popular guest over the years, including hosting a couple of events with other authors.
“We’re really looking forward to this special visit as part of our final book festival, including memories of that debut performance all those years ago!”
Marcus has written five books about Brian Clough, supporting good causes. They include his first publication ‘Young Man, You’ve Made My Day’ which was published by Bookcase Editions in Lowdham.
The Green Jumper podcast features a range of guests, including former players, journalists and fans who recall their memories of the charismatic Clough. It is available on all major platforms and on the tribute website www.brianclough.com.
The Top 25 countries for downloads include the UK, United States, Ireland, Australia, India, China, Vietnam, Japan and Singapore.
Last year, the podcast was named one of the best football pods in the world in the Sports Podcast Awards and was ‘Highly Commended’ in the UK Independent Podcast Awards, which recognise shows that are free from corporate ties.
