Forget boozy away days – Shropshire floatation and wellness firm launches healthier alternative in six year anniversary plans

Kevin and Suzie Guerin of Shropshire Floats

A unique Shropshire floatation and wellness business is marking its 7th year in business with the launch of new staff wellbeing packages as more employers look beyond traditional corporate hospitality.

Shropshire Floats Floatation and Wellness Centre, based in Myddle near Shrewsbury, has built a strong reputation for its floatation therapy and holistic wellness experiences, helping clients reduce stress, improve sleep and boost overall wellbeing.

The centre offers a range of non-touch treatments under one roof, including floatation therapy, fire and ice therapy, dry float systems and a hyperbaric oxygen chamber designed to support recovery, energy and mental clarity.

As centre owners, husband and wife team, Kevin and Suzie Guerin, who live in Telford, mark six years since opening the doors and launch the next phase of growth, the duo are now targeting the corporate sector with a new staff drawdown benefit scheme and small group away day packages designed to deliver meaningful wellbeing outcomes.

Recent investment has included a new website and booking app, extended opening hours – with the centre now open seven days a week – and the expansion of the leadership team with the appointment of a centre host who will take operational ownership two days a day.

Owner Kevin Guerin said the success, expansion and latest offering to the corporate community reflects a clear shift in what employees now value.

“The traditional ‘boozy’ away day is very much the last decade. What people want now is something that actually benefits them – something relaxing and restorative. They want to come away feeling better, not worse,” Kevin said.

“Time is precious and everyone works so hard so when they do get rewarded with time or a company benefit, more and more people want to dedicate that time or perk to their wellbeing so our new packages were born out of that demand.

“The new packages are designed for small teams of up to nine people, offering a structured half-day experience lasting around five hours. Groups begin with a light breakfast at a local venue before taking part in a series of treatments aimed at reducing stress and improving both physical and mental wellbeing.”

Co-owner Suzie said staff benefit schemes had previously included vouchers or discounts, of which many went unused, or national offerings such as helplines for mental health support.

“We’ve created something that is simple, effective and genuinely rewarding for people,” Suzie added.

“People come and use our facilities and say they feel so much better and they have seen a positive impact on both their home life and their work life.

“We may have been Shropshire’s best kept secret for the last six years but now it is time to open our doors to more people than ever before.”

The launch follows a strong period of growth for the business, with nearly 500 five-star reviews across Google, Meta and TripAdvisor, Christmas sales boomed by almost 40 per cent year-on-year and January bookings increased by 20 per cent compared to last year.

However, despite its success, Kevin admits there are still challenges in encouraging businesses to invest in wellbeing.

The new staff benefit scheme aims to address that gap, offering a flexible “drawdown” model that allows companies to provide access to treatments as part of a wider employee wellbeing package.

Kevin said the focus now is on connecting with forward thinking employers who recognise the long-term value of supporting their teams.

“We know the impact this can have – better sleep, reduced stress, improved clarity and recovery,” he said. “It’s about helping businesses support their people in a way that genuinely makes a difference.”

The centre will now be open every Monday and Tuesday for special “Recovery Days” which will include a float session and time in the Seychelles sunroom for people to recover from the busy weekend schedule.
