The Mary Stevens Hospice are pulling out all of the stops to make their upcoming Summer Fayre the best one they’ve ever done.
Each year The Mary Stevens Hospice host an annual Summer Fayre, and this year the event organisers are going above and beyond to ensure that there is plenty of activities for the whole family to get involved in.
Amongst attractions on the day there will be an opening parade which will travel through the streets of Oldswinford to officially open the Fayre. The parade will start at the Crabmill Pub and go down on to Swinford Road, then left on to Love Lane, left again on to Oakleigh Road then right onto Hagley Road and into the Hospice to officially open our Summer Fayre at 11am. If you live along one of these roads, Hospice staff would love for you to come outside and cheer on the parade!
There will be luxury cars and children’s characters in the parade to kick-start the event, with Hospice fundraisers and supporters being invited to take part in the parade too. Leading the parade will be three local, deserving young people who have been selected as the Hospice Queen, Prince and Princess by sponsors My Little Teepee & Co. following nominations by family members.
During the day there will be two Soccer Skills Sessions being run for young football enthusiasts by professional coaches, (one from Aston Villa!), to teach children skills of the game and take part in a penalty shoot-out. There will be a special football guest to give everyone who takes part their medal at the end of the session. For all of the Princesses and Superheroes of the area there are Afternoon Tea sessions being hosted on the day by Funtime Theatre, which will be filled with songs and party games whilst everyone enjoys cakes and sweets!
Hosting the main stage on the day will be volunteers from popular local radio station Black Country Radio, with live music and entertainment on the stage all day, sponsored by local care home, Parkfield Grange. You can sit down to enjoy a Punch and Judy show or have a browse of the ladies boutique fashion stall. Bring your furry friends down to the Dog Show to find the best in show and waggiest tail, which is kindly sponsored by Black Vets. If you’re feeling peckish there will be a BBQ fired up all day for everyone to enjoy. You can also take part in a variety of traditional carnival games such as Hook a Duck, Tin Can Alley and Dartboard Football alongside Fairground rides. There will also be a variety of stalls to explore on the day, such as a children’s toy stall, toiletries and gifts stall and a bottle tombola.
Local business Vantage365 are sponsoring this year’s Summer Fayre which means that all of the funds raised on the day will be used to support the patients and families around the Black Country that rely on the care that the Hospice provides.
James Totney, Community and Events Fundraiser, The Mary Stevens Hospice said: “We are all working hard to ensure that this event will be a day for our community to enjoy and remember for many years to come. We are pulling out all of the stops to make sure that there is something for absolutely everyone to enjoy.
It is the perfect opportunity to welcome our incredibly supportive community back to the Hospice, we can’t wait to see everyone on the day.”
The event is on Saturday 4th September in the grounds of The Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge on the Hagley Road. The parade will start from the Crabmill Pub at 10:30am, officially opening the Fayre at 11am. There will be free parking available on the day on the site of the Hospice.
