Visitors to this summer’s RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival will be tantalised by a very special edible garden, created by grow your own Instagram sensation, She Grows Veg.
Inspired by her new book, ‘Get Up & Grow’, couture jewellery designer turned gardening influencer, Lucy Hutchings, better known as She Grows Veg on Instagram, is designing an edible garden in the Grow Your Own area at the show.
The garden will include a selection of the projects from Lucy’s book , which aims to inspire those with limited outdoor space to grow their own food. As well as designing the garden, she will also be carrying out a series of talks at the show on the Potting Shed stage to demonstrate some of the projects from her book as well as speaking about growing food in small spaces alongside her partner and chef, Mike Keen.
Lucy comments: “I’ve always had a passion for growing so it’s a dream come true to be able to be creating something at an RHS Show and to be passing on some of what I’ve learned over the years to those who might never have considered growing their own before. I’ve incorporated as many projects from the book as possible into the design to demonstrate just how much can be done in a small space. Whether you’ve got a modest garden, a terrace, or no outside space at all, there’s something for everyone.”
To create the ‘Get Up & Grow’ garden, Lucy has partnered with Perrywood, an independent family-owned garden centre and nursery. Plants for the garden including chillies, heirloom tomatoes and edible flowers are currently being grown in the production nursery at their Tiptree store. After the show, Perrywood will carefully transport the garden to their Sudbury branch and rebuild it for the public to visit.
Published by Hardie Grant, ‘Get Up & Grow’ uses Lucy’s background as a designer to illustrate how inspiring growing your own food can be and includes a range of projects for all skill levels and spaces. The book is available on Amazon and all major book retailers now.
