A Midlands-based wall and floor tile supplier is to help create a one-off work of art which will form part of this summer’s elephant parade through Worcester.

Tile Choice, which has a store on Sherriff Street in the city, is supporting the creation of a unique baby elephant sculpture for Worcester’s Big Parade which will be auctioned at the end of the eight-week art trail to raise funds for St Richard’s Hospice.

A collectors’ item featuring a dazzling mosaic design, it’s hoped the custom designed piece will encourage a generous donation for the Worcestershire-based charity which cares for patients living with serious progressive illnesses and their loved ones too.

Sara Matthews, Business Development Manager for St Richard’s, said: “Worcester’s Big Parade is all about helping our wonderful community to get out and about again, enjoying the great outdoors and creating lasting memories after a difficult year for everyone. It’s also an opportunity to raise awareness of the care we provide at St Richard’s and help raise funds for a service that we provide free of charge to those in need.

“At the end of the trail, all the large elephants that have been dotted around Worcester will be available to buy at auction.  We also wanted to create a unique piece that will be the only elephant calf available to buy, as all the others return to the schools and community groups that created them. With the help of our friends at Tile Choice work on this very special sculpture can now get underway.”

Chris Finney, Manager of Tile Choice in Worcester, said: “Worcester’s Big Parade is something for the whole city to look forward to this summer.  When we heard that the hospice team wanted to create a truly unique art piece featuring a mosaic design, we knew we were the team for them.

“We pride ourselves on helping our customers choose beautiful products which, pieced together in their homes, create the perfect finish.  We can’t wait to see our baby elephant come together in the same way.”

Worcester’s Big Parade is a Wild in Art event being brought to the city by St Richard’s Hospice.  It is supported by partners Crowngate, Worcester City Council, Worcester Business Improvement District (BID), DRPG, West Midland Safari Park the Worcester News and BBC Hereford & Worcester.

Elephants will march into the city on Monday 12 July before leaving on Sunday 5 September 2021. After this, trail-goers will have the chance to say a last ‘goodbye’ at farewell events at Worcestershire County Cricket Club on Thursday 30 September – Sunday 3 October and again from Thursday 7 October – Sunday 10 Oct 2021. The large elephants will be auctioned to raise funds for St Richard’s in October 2021.
