Altruist, the dermatologist skincare brand, created by Kent based dermatologist and skin surgeon Dr Andrew Birnie and Dutch economist David Westerbeek van Eerten, this week donated over 4,000 units of its best-selling Altruist Dry Skin Repair Cream to good causes.
One thousand units were donated to Beauty Banks, the charity on a mission to end hygiene poverty in the UK by supplying personal care and hygiene essentials to people in the UK who can’t afford them. These will be distributed by the Beauty Banks to foodbanks, domestic abuse charities, care leavers associations and homeless centres across the UK.
A further 3,000 units were donated to Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust and Dr Birnie’s workplace, East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust, where they will be distributed to staff battling COVID-19. Frequent hand sanitising, combined with the freezing temperatures, is leaving NHS workers with sore dry skin and the Altruist Dry Skin Repair Cream will help alleviate this.
Jo Jones, Co-Founder of Beauty Banks, commented: “We can only run Beauty Banks thanks to the generosity and kindness of brands like Altruist. Thanks to them we have been able to reach hundreds more people living in hygiene poverty in the UK. We are so grateful to them”.
Rita Lawrence, Associate Director of Organisational Development for Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, added: “Our teams are going above and beyond in the battle against COVID-19 and this donation will help keep their skin protected and healthy. Dr Birnie knows first-hand how hard NHS staff are working and we really appreciate this support.”
Altruist is no stranger to supporting charitable causes. Dr Birnie and David Westerbeek van Eerten, the two altruists who created Altruist, with the help of a leading formulation scientist, did so in their spare time. Costs are kept low thanks to their own personal connections who help produce the product – as a result, these savings are passed on to the consumer with a very low price point. On top of this 10p from every product sold from the Altruist range is donated to charities that help people with albinism in Africa.
