HSBC UK Worcester go the distance for local hospice

The team at HSBC UK’s Worcester branch have been going the extra mile in support of county hospice care.

Staff members from HSBC UK in the city are to travel the length of the country – running, walking and skipping the equivalent distance from Lands End to John o’ Groats (while adhering to social distancing rules) – to raise funds for St Richard’s Hospice.  As a team of dog lovers, they’ll also be roping their four-legged friends in to join them.

Natasha Moore, Local Director at HSBC UK in Worcester, said: “The work that St Richard’s does is simply incredible and the care they provide is something that really strikes a chord with many of our staff members.

“With the hospice team going the extra mile for patients every day we thought we could show our appreciation by travelling the length of the country. We’ll be running, walking and skipping more than 800 miles between us and getting our four-legged friends involved too!”

And the team’s incredible challenge has inspired the hospice to create its own long-range fundraiser. The St Richard’s End-to-end challenge encourages supporters to walk or run the length of the UK over the course of a year whether that’s solo, with family members, a socially distant team or social bubble.

St Richard’s Hospice Fundraiser, Kelly Johns, said: “Travelling the length of the UK on foot is no easy feat so we’re amazed by HSBC Worcester’s commitment to supporting our care.  We’re also incredibly grateful to have been chosen as the branch’s charity of the year, in challenging times for us with charity shops temporarily closed and mass participation fundraising events cancelled.

“Inspired by the team’s fundraiser, we’re creating our own year-long end-to-end challenge to support hospice friends. We’re asking supporters to put their best foot forward and travel 874 miles over 12 months. While that might sound a scary distance, that’s just under 17 miles a week or around 2.4 miles a day. And you don’t have to go it alone, you can register as a family, team or a community sharing the miles between you. More legs make for lighter work!”

“So, if you’re inspired by the HSBC UK team, why not give our end-to-end challenge a go and do something incredible over the next 12 months? Whether you cover the miles on your own or as a group or community; we’d love you to go the extra mile for our care.”
