Four things to do before your next roadtrip

Planning and going on a roadtrip is so exciting. Not only are you going to have the chance to travel (at last), you’re going to have a certain level of freedom that you haven’t experienced before. If you’re new to taking a road trip, you may not know that it takes a lot of time, effort and organisation to get on the road and make a plan that will matter.

Other modes of transport are excellent, of course. Getting on a plane is fun when you know that you’re headed to a far flung destination with white sugar beaches and endless blue skies. Right now, though, you may not be able to get on a plane to those beaches in your daydreams. You may just be planning to roadtrip around your own country while you can – and that’s still fun! So, before you get planning, you need to make sure that you are safe and your car is ready for travel. Let’s take a look at four things that you should do before your next roadtrip.

  1. Get Insured. Is your car insurance up to date? If it’s not, you can click here and make sure it is. Insurance is so important and you should check that your insurance is going to cover you for the trip that you take, too. Your insurance may cover you for a service, too, and if it does now is the time to take advantage of it. Insurance should be up to date and cover you for breakdowns, too. If you are travelling across the country, you should think about covering your back in case you end up on the side of the road calling for help!
  2. Get Serviced. Speaking of servicing the car, you need to kick the tyres and make sure that they are ready for the road. The tread and depth need to be correct so that you don’t skid down the road! They should be updated often, but your tyres should ensure that your car remains balanced and there is a chance that you need new ones if yours are out of date. Get the car serviced inside and out, and you can ensure that you are comfortable on the road.
  3. Prepare. Emergencies on the road happen, but you can avoid them! By putting an emergency kit in the boot of the car, you can be prepared in case you are stuck anywhere. A First Aid kit should be in the glovebox, and you should have a bag with water, snacks, a spare phone charger and portable charging port, blankets, torches and matches. You should also keep your information for a breakdown specialist handy in case you need to make a call on the road. It can’t hurt to have the contact information for a car accident lawyer handy either, so you can better talk through your case should you experience a collision, seeking compensation in the right way.
  4. Check The Belts. Your car service should check your seatbelts, but you need to do a self-check, too. The last thing that you want is to find out at the wrong time that your seatbelts aren’t working properly. Get them checked way in advance of your trip, too, to give you time to get them checked and fixed.

A road trip is going to be fun, but it’s easier to relax if you know that the car that you are driving isn’t going to break down on you or is without insurance.
