While men find it difficult to open up about how they’re feeling, they often open up at the barbers.
Here at Gymshark, we believe that the weight belongs in your hands, not your head, which is why we want to get more men talking about their mental health in an environment that they feel comfortable in.
The Deload Barbershop is a non-judgemental safe space for men to open-up, offload and have a chat with professional mental health trained barbers who are there to listen, all while getting. Trim (FOR FREE!)
Open from 12th – 17th July 10am – 5pm every day
@ 149 Shoreditch High Street, E1 6HU
You can leave it all on the floor if you just need to offload, or our friendly barbers can get you connected to someone who can help out a little more.
Barbers from Curfew Grooming will be trimming for free across the week.
Curfew Grooming are a Brixton and Hackney based barber shop offering men’s grooming services. Their staff are trained by 12th Man, so that they can support others who need it, and talk about mental health with their clients and staff.
Gymshark will host panel talks across two evenings, with representatives from CALM, Lions Barber Collective, Curfew Grooming, Gymshark Athletes and Influencers discussing ‘Be the Mate You’d Want’ and ‘Building Real Strength’.
The Lions Barber Collective is an international collection of barbers which have come together to help raise awareness for the prevention of suicide. Since 2015, the collective has grown exponentially. Barbers are now trained across the country via the scheme’s BarberTalk programme, equipping trainees with the necessary skills to help recognise mental health issues and specific warning signs.
We will be selling exclusive Gymshark Deload Barbershop merch, with all proceeds going to suicide prevention charity Campaign Against Living Miserably.
“Too often men feel there are lack of safe spaces to really get stuff off their chests. That’s why for many the barber shop is more than a place to just get your haircut – it can be a haven for banter, friendships, and even a space to open up or confide in someone. And with 84% of men in the UK bottling up their emotions, our partnership with Gymshark aims to help normalise what to some people might feel like tricky conversations about mental health, and spread awareness of CALM’s lifesaving work.” – Matt Jennings, CALM Chief Marketing Officer
