Hospice hosts special tea party to celebrate Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough held a royally good celebration on Monday 6th June to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Waving their union jack flags with pride, hospice volunteers and staff joined together to enjoy some Jubilee cupcakes and elderflower punch in The Great Hall, which was suitably adorned with red, white and blue bunting and flower arrangements from point to point.

In honour of Her Majesty The Queen, three special rose bushes have been selected to take pride of place in the hospice gardens and will be planted by Sue Ryder gardening volunteers: Robert Bates, Judy Francis and Pauline McDermott.

Allison Mann, Service Director at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, said: “We wanted to organise something special to celebrate this momentous occasion and also say a huge thank you to our loyal staff and volunteers for being there for us.

“The rose plants will serve as a long-lasting reminder of the day to be enjoyed by staff, volunteers and supporters of the hospice for years to come.”

Allison also explained the hospice’s royal links, which includes Her Majesty The Queen being a Sue Ryder patron, and the new Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice building being officially opened by The Duchess of Gloucester in 2015.

“It’s very fitting, with our royal connections, that we all came together for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee,” Allison added.
