Coveris celebrates raising £3729 for young people with cancer

Local company, Coveris, is celebrating raising £3729 in its ongoing quest to raise funds and awareness for CLIC Sargent.

The company’s sites in Boston, Spalding, St Neots and Wisbech were inspired to fundraise for CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people in legacy of one of their staff members. In 2013 Steve Callaway tragically lost his life to pancreatic cancer; he was a dedicated supporter of the CLIC Sargent and Coveris has continued to support the charity in his memory.

For many years the company has organised a Christmas raffle amongst other office fundraising activities, raising thousands along the way. The Christmas raffle is its largest activity of the year, involving their staff and suppliers. 2019’s raffle proved to be the most successful yet, raising an amazing £3729!

Donna Wilton, who organises the raffle, said: “I’m really proud of all my colleagues for raising such a fantastic amount and we can’t thank our suppliers enough for getting involved. We are delighted to be part of ‘Team CLIC Sargent’ and support this fantastic charity.

“It’s so important that we do our bit for CLIC Sargent to make sure they can give families the support they need.”

Last year in Lincolnshire, CLIC Sargent supported 82 families, giving out 52 financial grants to the value of £10,776 helping families to cope with the costs of cancer. The Cancer Costs report from the charity found that families with a child on active treatment spend an extra £600 a month.

Childhood cancer has to be treated at a specialist hospital, and the hospital covering the East Midlands is Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. For families in Lincolnshire this can mean being miles away from home for long periods of time. The charity helps these families by giving them a place to stay close to where their child is having treatment. In 2019 CLIC Sargent provided accommodation for a number of Lincolnshire families at Billy’s House, the CLIC Sargent Home from Home in Nottingham.

Holly Eyre, Fundraising Engagement Manager for Lincolnshire at CLIC Sargent, “We can’t thank everyone at Coveris enough, their Christmas raffle has been a huge success!”

“When cancer strikes young lives, CLIC Sargent fights tirelessly to limit the damage it causes beyond their health. We rely entirely on donations to fund our vital work so I hope Coveris’ efforts inspire other local individuals or companies to donate and join our fight.”
