Kingsbarns Distillery, located just outside the historic town of St Andrews in the Lowlands of Scotland, is proud to announce the launch of its highly anticipated Private Whisky Cask Ownership programme.
This rare opportunity allows whisky lovers to become part of the maturation journey, owning a private cask of Kingsbarns’ award-winning single malt Scotch from spirit to bottle.
The initiative offers two carefully selected cask options for purchase: a first-fill ex-bourbon American Standard Barrel (£3,800) or a first-fill ex-Oloroso sherry Hogshead (£5,850). Each cask is filled with Kingsbarns’ new make spirit and stored securely on-site in the bonded warehouse. The price includes the spirit, the cask, warehousing, and insurance for the first ten years.
Each cask has been chosen for its unique contribution to flavour development. The bourbon barrel imparts smooth notes of vanilla, honey, toffee, gentle coconut, and orchard fruits, perfect for those who enjoy elegant and approachable whisky. In contrast, the sherry hogshead, seasoned with Oloroso and crafted from European oak, brings rich layers of dried fruits, dark chocolate, orange zest, and festive spice, delivering a luxurious and robust dram.
Transparency and security are at the heart of the programme. Kingsbarns has developed a gold-standard model for ownership: each cask is registered in the buyer’s name and stored securely under strict HMRC regulation. Owners receive personalised login details to a secure portal where they can view their cask’s location, request progress updates, and even order tasting samples.

Casks may be bottled after the legal minimum maturation of three years and one day, although Kingsbarns encourages owners to allow their whisky to develop for up to ten years. Bottling, duty, VAT, and delivery are payable at the time of bottling, while additional storage beyond ten years is available at a supplementary cost. This opportunity is offered for personal enjoyment rather than investment purposes, and Kingsbarns is not authorised to provide financial advice.
With a distillery capacity of 200,000 litres per year and a commitment to hand-crafted, small-batch whisky, Kingsbarns has quickly gained recognition, its “Dream to Dram” single malt was named the World’s Best Lowlands Single Malt in 2020.
