On March 5, The Ice Cream Alliance hosted its annual prestigious awards ceremony, amongst the array of categories one of the most anticipated is the newcomer for vanilla ice cream. This is an exciting category as vanilla is such a staple ice cream flavour, leading to a tight competition this year.
With over 80 years of history, this event is a highlight of the year, known for its rigorous judging process and the recognition of the highest standards and innovations in the ice cream sector.
Luca’s Gelato was one of the ice cream artisans honoured at this event.
The Chester-based ice cream parlour scooped up the national award for their Madagascan vanilla, and also placed third for his Strawberry trifle in the Open Category. Aaron Gill, owner of Luca’s Gelato, accepted the award to great applause from the room.
After coming to a crossroads in his life around five years ago, Aaron was encouraged to open his own gelateria by his good friend Luca, who runs his own gelateria in Tuscany.
“We opened the shop last Easter and we never stopped all year,” Aaron commented. “The people of Hoole and Chester have really welcomed us to the area and have really appreciated having an artisan gelateria in the heart of their neighbourhood.”
On what the future holds for this incredible ice cream parlour, Aaron says, “We want to build on our successful start this year by working with local children’s charities and schools to develop new flavours and new concepts. We are constantly striving to improve the quality of our Gelato and this award goes some way to making all the hard work worthwhile.”
