On March 5th, the jewel of the UK ice cream industry calendar, the Ice Cream Alliance awards night, brought together ice cream makers and businesses from across the nation to celebrate the best among them.
One of the most prestigious awards of the night is the Marvin Benton award. Named after a former president of the Ice Cream Alliance, this award is presented to respected individuals in the ice cream industry who have made significant contributions to the ice cream industry through innovation, leadership and dedication.
When speaking with Calogero ‘Charlie’ Mancuso, he said, “I’m so proud to have received this award tonight. To be recognised by the industry that I have loved and has given me so much for many years, thank you.”
Charlie Mancuso was awarded the lifetime achievement for his dedication to the industry, from starting out in Italy, when speaking about his favourite aspect of the ice cream industry he said, “The people. We’re all friends. I’ve met a lot of lovely people.”
With over 80 years of history, this event is a highlight of the year, known for its rigorous judging process and the recognition of the highest standards and innovations in the ice cream sector.
With the UK’s ice cream industry being valued at £1.4 billion per year, the Ice Cream Alliance’s trade association is an important body to keep the network of ice cream creators close, and the spirit of innovation and quality alive.
