A leading Cheshire animal hospital has welcomed two new vets to its experienced team to further boost its patient care.
Neurology specialist Camilla Cooper and internal medicine clinician Leonel (Leo) Frutuoso have joined Northwest Veterinary Specialists (NWVS) in Runcorn.
Camilla graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2008 and worked in mixed and small animal practices before returning to Liverpool in 2011 to complete a small animal rotating internship.
A distinguished career has also seen Camilla complete a residency in small animal neurology at the University of Liverpool and complete a European Diploma in Veterinary Neurology.
Camilla became a European and RCVS specialist in veterinary neurology in 2019 before moving to the USA in 2022 taking up a post as Associate Professor in veterinary neurology at Colorado State University.
Camilla said: “I’m very much looking forward to working in such a strong neurology team, and with so many former colleagues and friends. Together we will provide excellent care to the neurology patients of the north west.”
Leonel graduated from the University of Evora in Portugal in 2015. He has previously worked at NWVS on a rotating internship before spending time at fellow Linnaeus animal hospitals Southfields Veterinary Specialists in Essex and Davies Veterinary Specialists in Hertfordshire where he did an internal medicine-specific internship and an ECVIM-CA internal medicine residency respectively.
Leonel said: “Returning to NWVS is a great opportunity as it allows me to be part of a large multidisciplinary hospital, while working with an outstanding internal medicine team which offers the best standard of care to patients.”
Outside of work, Camilla enjoys spending time with her Miniature Dachshund named Slug and her ginger cat called Hippo, while Leonel enjoys playing board games and spending time with friends.
NWVS is one of the UK’s leading specialist-led animal hospitals. It offers care in anaesthesia and analgesia, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, oncology, orthopaedics, physiotherapy and soft tissue surgery.
