Cambridge Business Online Centre, led by Rafmary Millan Reyes Baker, who graduated with first-class honours in Politics and International Relations from Royal Holloway, University of London, and holds a master’s degree in development studies from the University of Cambridge, has won a National Award for Innovation in the United Kingdom.

In September 2023, a national competition took place, sponsored by Innovate UK, which is a part of the UK’s Department for Research and Innovation. The project presented by the educational enterprise Cambridge Business Online Centre, titled “Mind the Skills Gap: Lead. Innovate. Excel” made a significant impact among 2,084 participants. It captured the attention of the judging panel by focusing on young individuals who have disengaged from the formal education system, entailing the development of an alternative programme aimed at actively and positively reintegrating them into society.

Through this initiative, participants will attend future skills bootcamps, lasting 10 weeks each, which are designed to enhance self-esteem and confidence, foster leadership, and entrepreneurship, and provide training in emerging technologies through digital clinics.

The objective is to give young people the best possible chance of success by amplifying their skillsets, while motivating them to improve their prospects for the future. The pilot centre for this initiative is located in the city of Peterborough, situated in the district of Cambridgeshire, UK.

Daniel Zeichner MP, Member of Parliament for Cambridge, commented: “I am pleased to support new educational initiatives that aim to benefit young individuals feeling unmotivated by traditional systems of learning.

These initiatives, like those recognised by this important award, empower businesses pursuing a social cause by supporting young people and equipping them with vital skills needed for a changing world. This, in turn, strengthens the businesses’ purpose and goals, allowing them to make an even greater positive impact.”

The first bootcamp is well underway, with additional ones scheduled for July and September 2024. Interested young people who are residents of the city of Peterborough can access the website www.cambridgebusinessonline.com and enrol free of cost.

It is worth noting that in addition to this innovation programme, Cambridge Business Online Centre also offers other educational projects such as a bachelor’s degree in business, general English courses, English for business, English for certifications such as IELTS, as well as tutoring and educational consultancy.
