3Spoonies on a mission – three disabled business women dispelling myths, sharing tips and reaching out to Theo Paphitis

3Spoonies and Theo Paphitis

3Spoonies are three entrepreneurs with a mix of chronic health conditions and neurospiciness, running a podcast to help share their experience and bring in experts. It’s for disabled people in business as well as anyone who wants to be inclusive. 25% of UK small businesses are run by disabled people, but it is something rarely represented.

The 3Spoonies were at Theo Paphitis’ Small Business Sunday Winners’ Event and heard his advice that disabled business people need to “try harder”. While this is true, it’s not necessarily constructive or actionable and doesn’t recognise the struggles many people face.

We’re inviting Theo onto our show to share his expertise and hear perspectives from our community.

“Being a disabled entrepreneur means that there are things you fundamentally can’t do. You have to work far harder to be recognised as much as non-disabled people. Many people will see your disability before they see you as an individual with your own skills, creativity and approach” – Karen Duncan (3Spoonies).

3Spoonies are looking to raise awareness, support people who may feel alone and under-represented and to increase understanding. After all, people may not have experienced long-term illness and there is still far too much stigma. It’s time for honest conversations so we can all be more aware and more helpful.
