Young people offered the chance to gain valuable experience with sports coaching company

A sports coaching company that works with primary school pupils in Derbyshire is offering young people in Melbourne the chance to gain valuable experience with them during the Easter holidays.

Progressive Sports in the East Midlands works with 30 schools across the city and county. Providing curricular activities, holiday clubs and teacher training sessions, they have recently expanded into Nottingham.

Managing director Adam Holland says that he wants to give people between the ages of 15 and 17 the chance to get some ‘on the job’ training under their belts.

“Volunteering is great for young people,” said Adam, “it helps to build confidence to take on new opportunities and to build those ‘softer’ skills that many employers value. Volunteering is also something that young people who are taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh awards have to do as part of their bronze award.

“It makes you feel good and volunteering also benefits the organisation who are able to bring in new people with new ideas.”

There are 10 places available and those who take part will gain experience at Progressive Sports’ holiday clubs across the county, over the Easter holidays and beyond.

“We want the young people who volunteer with us to feel valued,” said Adam, “and as well as receiving invaluable experience of working with children, we will invite the volunteers to forthcoming training workshops over the summer months.”

Community volunteering is also the theme for King Charles’s coronation, which will take place on Saturday, May 6th at Westminster Abbey with events planned across the weekend.

As well as the coronation, there will be a concert at Windsor Castle the following day, whilst hundreds of people have already committed to The Big Coronation Lunch on the same day.

Monday, May 8th is when the public are encouraged to give back by taking part in The Big Help Out; a UK-wide initiative that launches later this month. The scheme aims to inspire people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas.
