The Shropshire Lads
Wolverhampton City Centre welcomed the sunshine as more than 15,000 people gathered to watch Krazy Karts wind their way through the streets.
Sixteen soapbox teams took to the track on August 21st for the third Krazy Races event of 2022 – with The Shropshire Lads recording the fastest time and being crowned the winner!
Businesses, charities and independent teams took on the 300-metre FBC Manby Bowdler track from Queen Square to Darlington Street – all to raise money for a number of local causes and headline charity Macmillan Cancer Support.
Winners, The Shropshire Lads recorded a time of 27.9 seconds in the final, just a few seconds faster than MIDDAS who came in second, and Team Tardis took third place with a time of 30.8.
Chrisbeon Office Supplies took both fourth and fifth place with their karts, EFF1 and Chrisbeon Crashers recording times of 31.4 and 31.8 seconds.
Oscar, one of the winning Shropshire Lads, said: “We are chuffed to bits, it has been a great day with so many great charities and teams and everyone behind the scenes and we are really looking forward to the next Krazy Races.”
Thousands of spectators cheered from the sidelines as karts of all shapes and sizes hit the track at the event, in partnership with the City of Wolverhampton Council and supported by the Wolverhampton BID.
Alongside prizes for those whose kart achieved a podium finish, prizes were also handed out for the Best Krazy Designed Kart, presented by Macmillan Cancer Support to Bathams Delph plc’s Ox Box, the Main Sponsors Choice Award won by Mander Centre and presented by Sandra Samuels, Mayor of Wolverhampton, on behalf of City of Wolverhampton Council, the Most Entertaining Team of the Day as voted by the public went to Team Tardis Environmental UK Ltd, presented by Stephanie Henson from Six Ticks and the Best Team Award, as voted by the teams themselves and presented by Collins Aerospace went to MIDDAS Interior Solutions Ltd.
Organiser and Founder of Krazy Races, Sarah Belcher, said her third and final Krazy Races event of the year had finished the series in style.
She said: “The weather was great, the teams were great, the supporters were great and we all had a wonderful time.
“I need to say a huge thank you to the sponsors and supporters who make all of these events possible and to the hoardes of people behind the scenes who work so hard to make it such a fantastic event – and thank you of course to the people of Wolverhampton who turned out in their thousands to cheer everyone on.
“Congratulations to all the winners and we look forward to seeing many of our teams return in 2023 – along with lots of new businesses and organisations who will take on the challenge next year!”
The Krazy Races event kicked off in Shrewsbury in May, took Northwich by storm in June and finished the series in Wolverhampton.
